Scholarships through 蹤獲扦 Office of International Education

Important Information
  • All of the scholarships through the 蹤獲扦 Office of International Education require the same application and applicants do not need to designate a particular scholarship in their application. They will automatically be considered for any funds in which they meet the eligibility requirements.
  • Applicants must agree to conditions on Scholarship Acceptance form see General Study Abroad Scholarship Application Form for specific conditions.
  • Students who have previously studied abroad and received study abroad scholarships through 蹤獲扦 are generally not eligible to receive another scholarship through this application process.
  • Scholarship awards can be withdrawn at anytime based on the discretion of the 蹤獲扦 Office of International Education if new information has been provided on the students eligibility or financial need.
How to Apply

1. Complete the General Study Abroad Scholarship Application Form and email to studyabroad@wichita.edu or drop off at 蹤獲扦 Office of International Education.

2. Submit a 1 page essay to studyabroad@wichita.edu or drop off at 蹤獲扦 Office of International Education see General Study Abroad Scholarship Application Form for essay guidelines.

 

3. Arrange for two reference forms to be submitted directly to the 蹤獲扦 Office of International Education (email or mail) see General Study Abroad Scholarship Application Form for reference form guidelines.

Reference Form

Deadlines
  • Travel Seminar Scholarship priority deadline: November 10th
  • All other 蹤獲扦 Office of International Education study abroad scholarship deadlines:
    • Fall semester: February 15th
    • Spring semester: September 15th
    • Summer semester: March 1st (Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis starting on November 10th. Preference given to students who apply early.)
Eligibility requirements for all awards
  1. Undergraduate students should have completed a minimum of 30 hours by the time of departure. Graduate students should have completed at least 9 graduate credit hours.
  2. Students should have and maintain a minimum 2.5 overall GPA and some scholarships will have a higher GPA requirement. Stated in the Acceptance Form.
  3. Students must have been accepted to a study abroad program approved by the 蹤獲扦 Office of International Education.
  4. Applicants must demonstrate a financial need through their application and accompanying essay.
  5. Students who have previously studied abroad and received study abroad scholarships through 蹤獲扦, are generally not eligible to receive another scholarship through this application process.
  6. No recipient will be excluded from consideration based on race, religion, color, origin, gender, age, sexual orientation, marital status, military, or disability status.
Scholarship funding sources and specific funding source eligibility requirements
  • Student Government Association (SGA) Study Abroad Scholarship:
    • Open to both undergraduate and graduate students from any major
    • Designated for U.S. citizens or U.S. permanent residents
    • Must have and maintain a 2.5 GPA
    • Between five and ten scholarships from $500 to $1,500 are usually awarded annually
  • Garvey Study Abroad Scholarship:
    • Open to both undergraduate and graduate students from any major
    • Designated for U.S. citizens or U.S. permanent residents
    • Must have and maintain a 2.5 GPA
    • Between five and ten scholarships from $500 to $1,500 are usually awarded annually
  • Dharma DeSilva Endowed International Business Scholarship:
    • Must be an undergraduate student who is pursuing a BBA degree with International Business major or minor; or Economics majors (BA) with an international business minor; or students with International Studies major (business option)
    • Preference will be given to students who are active members of the International Business Studies Association (IBSA)
    • Each recipient is eligible for a one-time $1,500 scholarship from this fund
    • Students must have and maintain 2.75 GPA for this scholarship
Travel Seminar Scholarships

Travel Seminar Scholarships are scholarships specifically for students participating in a 蹤獲扦 travel seminar for the upcoming summer. 蹤獲扦 travel seminars participants have the opportunity to receive a Travel Seminar Scholarship up to $3,500 each based on financial need.

  • Students must have a current FAFSA filed through the 蹤獲扦 Office of Financial Aid & Scholarships and preference will be given to Pell grant recipients.
  • Students who are not receiving a Pell grant are generally awarded a Travel Seminar Scholarship between $500-$1,000.
  • Priority Deadline for Travel Seminar Scholarships: November 10th higher amounts are awarded to students who apply by the priority deadline. All applications received after the priority deadline will be reviewed on a rolling basis and will be awarded lower scholarship amounts (regardless of financial need) until our final summer scholarship deadline of March 1st.

  • To apply, complete the general 蹤獲扦 General Study Abroad Scholarship Application process as described above in How To Apply including the application form, two reference forms with letters and an essay.

  • The scholarship resources listed below are not administered by 蹤獲扦. Please contact the relevant organization for information about these opportunities.
  • The 蹤獲扦 Office of International Education can assist with applications and essay review.
  • Most outside scholarships have a fall and spring deadline. If you are studying abroad in the summer, we recommend you apply by the fall deadline so you will know if you are awarded the scholarship prior to being committed to a study abroad program.

Please contact the 蹤獲扦 Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships to talk with a financial aid representative for information on financial aid for study abroad.

  • All financial aid should apply for any exchange program as well as departmental/college scholarships where you are directly enrolled at 蹤獲扦 for your program.
  • For federal aid, classes must count toward your degree.
