Project description: In partnership with Dr. Castro, employ philosophical methods to develop a coherent philosophical framework that can ground inquiry usefully for bioengineering professionals. This is a phase 1 internship focused on how to ground a coherent normative ethics of biomedical engineering in a coherent metaphysics and epistemology. Environmental engineering, biomaterials, and non-medical aspects of bioengineering will not be explicitly included in the project scope, though they will inevitably be relevant. The student will assist with literature review in some targeted areas, conceptual analysis and framing, identification of paradigm and edge cases for theory testing, and other philosophical work suitable to the student鈥檚 abilities.
